Broken Mountain

The creation and dissolution of space are repeated. The installation and dismantling of walls occur over short cycles, revealing the continuous transformation of the space. Broken Mountain captures the moment when natural and artificial landscapes intersect within these temporarily defined areas.

The chainsaw-cut wooden walls evoke ruins and mountain ridges, while their interiors are painted white and illuminated. Light escaping through the gaps is projected onto the gallery’s ceiling and walls, inviting viewers to imagine spaces of the past, present, and future.

The work was presented in the Seoul, vite, vite exhibition alongside Chris Marker’s Coréennes photo series, which documents people in North Korea, extending the piece’s scope to questions of territory and boundaries.

공간의 생성과 소멸은 반복된다. 벽의 설치와 해체는 짧은 시간 안에 이루어지며, 변화하는 공간의 순환을 보여준다. Broken Mountain은 이렇게 임시로 구획된 공간 속에서도 자연과 인공의 풍경이 교차하는 순간을 포착한다. 전기톱으로 잘라진 나무벽은 폐허와 산의 능선을 떠올리게 하며, 내부는 흰색으로 칠해지고 조명이 설치되어 있다. 그 틈새로 새어나오는 빛은 전시장 천장과 벽에 투사되어, 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래의 공간을 상상하게 한다.

이 작품은 "Seoul, vite, vite" 전시에서 Chris Marker의 북한 사람들을 기록한 " Coréennes" 사진 시리즈와 함께 전시되며, 영토와 경계에 대한 질문까지 확장하는 작품으로 소개되었다.
