Light Collector

Light Collector and Waves were conceived for an exhibition held in a remodeled former motel on Jeju Island. The space, retaining traces of its past, exposes the raw texture of concrete and keeps windows sealed with bricks, creating a sense as if time itself were flowing backward.

Light Collector incorporates the patterns of the bricked-up windows into glass panels, which are gathered and hung together. The translucent glass transforms the past closure into a new openness, functioning as a monument that commemorates the time between humans and the space.

Waves, with its floor structure undulating like rolling waves, reflects light and extends throughout the space, imbuing it with a lively rhythm.

Both works act as devices that reintroduce light into the newly reborn space, visualizing the intersection of past and present, and evoking the memory of the place through illumination.

Light Collector와 Waves는 제주도의 옛 모텔을 리모델링해 새롭게 문을 여는 미술 전시에 맞추어 구상되었다. 과거의 흔적이 남아 있는 이 공간은 거친 콘크리트의 물성을 그대로 드러내고 창문을 벽돌로 막아 둔 채 폐쇄적인 상태를 유지하며, 마치 시간이 거꾸로 흐르는 듯한 감각을 불러일으킨다.

Light Collector는 창문을 막고 있던 벽돌의 패턴을 유리에 녹여내어 모아 걸어둔다. 빛을 투과하는 유리는 과거의 폐쇄를 새로운 개방으로 전환시키며, 인간과 공간사이의 시간을 기억하는 기념비이다.

마룻바닥의 구조가 물결처럼 밀려들어오는듯한 Waves는 빛을 받아 반사하며 공간 속에 확장되고, 생동하는 리듬을 부여한다.

새롭게 태어난 공간에 다시 빛을 들여보내는 장치로 기능하는 두 작품은, 과거와 현재가 교차하는 순간을 가시화하며, 빛을 통해 장소의 기억을 환기한다.
