Open Space

Open Space is a work presented in the artist’s first exhibition after graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

The piece takes the exhibition space—symbolized by the white cube—and reduces it to the form of a plaster box, whose surface is opened as if its shell were being peeled away.

As the closed box is opened, the latent space once sealed within is finally revealed as a landscape. What was hidden is no longer merely an interior, but emerges as a newly perceived scene, expanding into another world.

Open Space는 파리 국립고등미술원 졸업 이후 가진 첫 전시에서 발표한 작품으로, 화이트 큐브로 상징되는 전시 공간을 석고 상자의 형태로 축소한 뒤, 그 표면을 껍질을 벗기듯 열어진 구조를 취한다.

닫혀진 상자가 열리면서, 그 내부에 닫혀 있던 잠재적 공간은 비로소 하나의 풍경으로 드러난다.

숨겨져 있던 공간은 단순한 내부가 아니라, 새롭게 인식되는 장면이자 또 다른 세계로 확장된다.
