Night and Day

Night and Day is an exhibition bringing together installations, videos, and sculptural works developed during an artist residency in Yangji-ri, a village located near the DMZ. The exhibition presents works produced through daily observation, field research, and artistic practice conducted on site, exploring how light, material, and space shape experiences of borders, distance, and time.

At the center of the exhibition is Light Temperature Wind, an installation constructed from shade nets, plastic sheets, and windbreak fabrics commonly used in local vinyl greenhouses. Layered translucent membranes form tunnel-like structures that disrupt movement and perception, evoking the invisible boundaries embedded in the DMZ landscape.

The exhibition also features three video works—Stone, Horizon, and House Party—created during the residency, alongside Ori Mountain, a beeswax candle sculpture shaped after local basalt. Together, the works reflect experiences accumulated through the residency and invite viewers to encounter the DMZ as a layered and sensorial condition rather than a fixed boundary.

〈밤과 낮〉은 디엠지 인접 지역인 철원 양지리 레지던시에서의 체류 경험을 바탕으로 제작된 설치, 영상, 조각 작품을 한자리에 모은 전시이다. 현장에서의 일상적 관찰과 리서치, 창작 과정을 통해 생산된 작업들은 빛과 물질, 공간을 매개로 경계와 거리, 시간의 감각을 탐구한다.

전시의 중심에는 농가에서 사용하는 차광막, 비닐, 방풍막으로 구성된 설치 작품 〈빛, 온도, 바람〉이 놓인다. 반투명한 막들이 겹겹이 중첩된 터널형 구조는 관람객의 이동과 시선을 교란하며, 디엠지 공간에 내재된 보이지 않는 경계를 환기한다.

이와 함께 레지던시 기간 중 제작된 영상 작품 〈돌〉, 〈지평선〉, 〈하우스 파티〉와 지역의 현무암을 형상화한 밀랍 조각 〈오리산〉이 소개된다. 전시는 레지던시를 통해 축적된 경험과 물질, 행위를 바탕으로, 디엠지를 고정된 경계가 아닌 감각적이고 중첩된 공간으로 제안한다.
