Condensation cast aluminum, dimension variable, 2023

A cold glass of water on a hot day quickly forms water droplets on its surface. The droplets trickle down to the bottom and collect on the outer rim of the glass cup, which over time evaporate and disappear. Condensation (2023) is a work in which the form and volume of the water stains and their traces are cast in aluminum. Chung transformed the transient state of condensation and evaporation into a permanent state, installing it on the floor. The changing state of the molten aluminum as it cools and solidifies, as well as the changing forms of water stains, encompasses the illusion of a disruption of causality.
The incomplete ring of Condensation climbs from the floor to the walls of the exhibition space, leading to Coordinates (2024). In Coordinates, the overlapping rings continue the flow that began in Condensation, suggesting a rolling motion. Chung sprayed the surface of the rings with silver glass solution, creating sporadic chemical reactions that resulted in the ring plates with different levels of transparency and reflectivity. Coordinates blurs the boundaries of the exhibition space by reflecting the distorted reflection of the space and transparently penetrating the walls behind the works.

더운 날 컵에 차가운 물을 담으면 표면에 금세 물방울이 생긴다. 물방울들은 바닥으로 흘러내려 컵의 바깥 테두리에 모여들고, 시간이 지나면 증발해 사라진다. 응결 (2023)은 이 물자국의 형태와 부피를 알루미늄으로 주조한 작품이다. 정소영 작가는 응결되 고 증발하는 일시적인 현상을 영구적인 상태로 전환해 전시장 바닥에 설치했다. 용해된 알루미늄 쇳물이 식으며 고체화하는 상태 변화와 물자국의 변화는 서로 포개어지며 그 인과관계를 교란하는 환상을 유도한다. 〈응결>의 불완전한 원형은 바닥에서 전시실의 벽면 을 타고 올라가 <좌표 (2024)로 이어지며 전시장의 바닥과 벽을 가상의 '좌표' 삼아 굴러가는 흐름으로 구성 했다. 작가는 판의 표면에 은거울 용액을 뿌리고 산발적 인 화학반응을 일으켜 각기 다른 투명도와 반사율을 지닌 판으로 만들었다. 얼룩진 거울처럼 완성된 〈좌표>는 전시 공간을 반사하여 비추기도, 작품 뒤의 벽을 투명하게 투과시키기도 하면서 현실 속 경계를 혼란시킨다.
